Hybrid LNG Commercial Logging Truck

Typically, logging trucks in northern Canada are specifically built to carry extra high payload on gravel logging road and most if these trucks are outfitted with an electric brake to maintain the speed in long descents without overheating mechanical breaks. An owner operator asked VPS to develop an electric brake to store kinetic energy in high powered batteries and provide a power boost for acceleration and long ascents. Closely working with the operator, we designed the integration of a ultra-high torque motor to the truck differential along with a high power battery bank. The system provided sufficient braking power and power boost to significantly shorten logging runs and provide fuel savings in excess of 25%.
