POSITION SUMMARY

Location: Panama City, Florida or Fort Lauderdale, Florida (* Travel required for trade shows, demonstrations, and executive support)

Voltari Electric is seeking a Director of Canadian Business Development to lead institutional revenue growth and strategic government engagement across Canada.

This role will drive relationships with the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Coast Guard, Department of National Defence (DND), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), federal agencies, provincial ministries, port authorities, and public-sector fleet operators. The successful candidate will also maintain awareness of and engage with relevant federal and provincial funding pathways, including grant programs, innovation initiatives, and industrial development mechanisms that support maritime electrification and domestic capability.

This is a senior, externally facing role requiring credibility in institutional environments and the ability to operate effectively within long-cycle procurement processes.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Institutional Revenue Development
    • Develop and execute VOLTARI's Canadian institutional growth strategy
    • Build and manage relationships with decision-makers within:
      • Royal Canadian Navy (RCN)
      • Canadian Coast Guard
      • Department of National Defence
      • RCMP marine units
      • Provincial agencies
      • Port authorities and public utilities
      • Identify multi-vessel and fleet transition opportunities
    • Support proposal strategy and RFP participation in coordination with technical and executive teams
    • Manage VOLTARI response to sovereign coastal defence, USV and related data management (command center) opportunities
  2. Government Relations & Strategic Engagement
    • Represent VOLTARI in discussions with federal and provincial officials
    • Monitor policy developments relevant to domestic shipbuilding, marine electrification, battery production, and defence procurement
    • Support alignment with Buy Canadian and domestic industrial capability initiatives
    • Engage with industry associations and maritime forums
  3. Funding & Program Awareness
    • Maintain active awareness of relevant funding pathways, including:
      • Innovation and defence programs
      • Industrial and regional development programs
      • Clean transportation or marine electrification funding
      • Provincial innovation and fleet transition grants
    • Support application strategy in coordination with internal and external resources
    • Identify opportunities to combine procurement with funding support where appropriate
  4. Strategic Partnerships
    • Develop relationships with Canadian primes and industrial partners
    • Support integration discussions related to propulsion, autonomy, or domestic content requirements
    • Identify collaborative opportunities aligned with federal industrial priorities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 15+ years experience in business development, government relations, defence or public sector procurement, or institutional sales
  • Direct familiarity with one or more of:
    • Royal Canadian Navy
    • Canadian Coast Guard
    • Department of National Defence
    • Federal procurement processes
    • Maritime or defence industry
  • Strong understanding of Canadian public-sector procurement cycles
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate senior-level relationships
  • Experience navigating federal and/or provincial funding programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED BACKGROUND
  • Former DND, Coast Guard, or federal agency official
  • Defence or maritime prime contractor experience
  • Experience in fleet modernization or capital equipment procurement
  • Experience engaging with industrial policy or domestic content requirements
  • Active or recently held Canadian security clearance (e.g., Reliability Status, Secret, or Top Secret), with eligibility for reactivation
  • Experience operating a small craft
